Hong Kong: Fire destroys construction site in Kowloon

A fire has ravaged a huge building in the heart of Hong Kong's shopping district.

Firefighters battled a blaze through the early hours of Friday local time and it tore through a construction site in the city's popular shopping district.

The fire broke out at the Tsim Sha Tsui site around 11:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

The site is surrounded by a shopping center, some residential and commercial buildings, with several hotels in the same area.

Police said four nearby buildings also caught fire, but those fires were put out.

The bamboo scaffolding around the building would also be engulfed in flames.

Two people, believed to be motorists, were reportedly taken to hospital, although their condition is not known.
