Hugh Grant makes his first Comic-Con with the movie Dungeons & Dragons

Hugh Grant on stage

Over a 40-year career, Hugh Grant has been a guest at nearly every major film event on the planet. But it's his first time at Comic-Con.

"We tried to come up with Sense and Sensibility," he joked with thousands of people in Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center. "But we were turned away."

He behaves like a Comic-Con veteran, his self-deprecating humor playing perfectly with the audience for a panel for an upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves fantasy film.

When the panel moderator wonders if Grant really has been a lifelong D&D fan, one co-star jokes: "I think he mixed it with S&M".

With impeccable comedic timing, Grant pauses before finally saying: "She's not wrong".

He adds, "I've been an enthusiastic dungeon master for a few years now".

In the movie, he actually plays the villain, Forge. After the panel is over, he confesses that he originally didn't think it would be his kind of movie.

"My agent said: "I'm going to send you this Dungeon and Dragons thing". I thought, "I don't think it's for me dear". And then I read it, and it's really hilarious.< /p>

"The two Jonathans who wrote and directed it must have been very steeped in Monty Python or something. Because it was a really funny script."
