Cummins and Hales were due to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the competition which begins on March 25.

T20 World Cup winner Hales withdrew due to workload, having also signed franchise agreements in Australia, Pakistan and the UAE.

Australian Test captain Cummins says he wants to rest before the Ashes and 50 on the Cup in the world in 2023.

Cummins, 29, also took over the one-day international team ( ODI) from his country after the retirement of Aaron Finch.

"The international calendar is full of tests and ODIs for the next 12 months", he said. he writes on social media.

"I'm going to take a little rest before an Ashes series and a Cup of the world."

Australia have a Test series against the West Indies in November, before the playoffs against Africa South and India precede the ashes in July 2023.

The 50-year-old World Cup will follow in India in October 2023.

Before all that, Australia take on England in an ODI series of three games, which starts Thursday in Adelaide, although Hales is not part of that team.

This game opening comes just four days after Sunday's T20 World Cup final and England all-rounder Moeen Ali described the timing of the series as "awful".

In the summer, England Test captain Ben Stokes announced his sudden retirement from ODI and said this should be a "wake up call" for cricketing authorities.

The England batter Sam Billings has also pulled out of the IPL, saying he wants to focus on the County Championship with Kent.

England captain Jos Buttler has been retained by Rajasthan Royals, while Moeen will play again for Chennai Super Kings and fast bowler Mark Wood has been retained by Lucknow Super Giants after missing the 2022 season due to an elbow injury.

The Punjab Kings have retained the versatile Liam Livingstone and the striker Jonny Bairstow, who missed the T20 World Cup with a broken leg.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer, who looking to return from back and elbow injuries this season next, has been retained by Mumbai Indians, while left-arm dressmaker David Willey will return to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Australian T20 captain Finch has been released by Kolkata Knight Riders, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have dropped New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson.
