Boris Johnson joked to his wedding guests that his removal from No. 10 was "the greatest couture since the Bayeux Tapestry".

The Prime Minister donned a beige linen suit with a light blue shirt and navy tie as he and his wife Carrie celebrated their wedding at Daylesford House, owned by Lord Bamford, Chairman of JCB.

The Grade I listed property is near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.

The Prime Minister told the guests that he had received “heaps of resignation letters, mostly from my closest family,” one of the guests who attended told The Times.

Wife Carrie also gave a speech which was described as "touchingly funny" and "full of affection" for the Prime Minister.

Ms Johnson, 34, is understood to have been wearing a dress worth £3,500 designed by Savannah Miller, which she rented for £25 from the My Wardrobe HQ website.

The couple were later joined on the dance floor by their two-year-old son, Wilf.

Mr Johnson's closest supporters were also present, including Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams, one of Johnson's closest friends and Minister without Portfolio .

He and Mrs Dorries would both be in contention for the House of Lords seats in a final victory lap.
