Now strange new photos have revealed the frozen-in-time Celestial Suite, which still looms over the US city of Houston, Texas.

The penthouse is the brainchild of former mayor Roy Hofheinz, who was building a Disneyland-style resort called the Astrodomain.

The resort had the Astroworld theme park, a huge stadium called the Astrodome - dubbed the "Eighth Wonder of the World" - and a quartet of hotels.

Overlooking it all was the Celestial Suite, where guests such as the President Lyndon Johnson, Frank Sinatra, Muhammad Ali and Michael Jackson have stay born in style atop the Astroworld Hotel.

Harper Goff, Oscar-winning set and Disneyland visionary, has been hired to fill the interiors of antique furniture, Tiffany glass and 24-karat gold.

Several themed rooms, a two-story nightclub, a library and a dining room n were just a few of its features, all serviced by a private elevator.

It was so opulent that a guest, Elvis Presley, is said to have that he found it "too garish".
