Rishi Sunak's instructions to Tory MPs regarding the leadership bid were accidentally revealed

A Tory backbencher has accidentally revealed instructions apparently sent by Rishi Sunak's team to Tory MPs on how to post on social media to support the former chancellor in the leadership race party.

The prepared Twitter post, which came just two hours after Mr Sunak revealed he represented the Tory leader, included a quote claiming to be from the MP who posted it, pasted on this MP's own photo.

The instructions said, "If you're happy, can you tweet and include the hashtag Ready4Rishi, and especially the website Ready4rishi.com, then your infographic below reads the suggestion.

The identical quote that all posters were required to use read, "I support Rishi as he tackles inflation, grows the economy and will cut taxes.

"Rishi is the reason we have a r unemployment rate okay today. And that's why he's the best man to lead the country. .jpg?quality=75&width=230&auto=webp" alt="Rishi Sunak enters Tory leadership race promising to 'rebuild trust' after Boris Johnson" height="56" width="82" layout=" responsive" class="i-amphtml-layout-responsive i-amphtml-layout-size-defined" i-amphtml-layout="responsive"/>Rishi Sunak enters the Tory leadership race promising to "restore the confidence" after Boris Johnson

backbench MP Paul Maynard accidentally tweeted a message which included the instructions - but quickly deleted the tweet and replaced it with a message as it was supposed to look.

Users mocked him, saying that his first post, prepared by PR people, was better.

Earlier, just before M's announcement Mr Sunak, Mr Maynard invited Facebook followers in his constituency of Blackpool North and Cleveleys to respond to a survey of who they think d should be the next Prime Minister.
