MPs have charged taxpayers nearly £200,000 for energy bills and other utilities at their second homes over the past year, new analysis by The Independent shows em>.

Activists said the results showed Britain's elected officials were partly 'insulated' from financial hardship during the cost of living crisis as much of their energy costs are covered by the public purse.

Politicians with seats outside of London are permitted to put utility bills to any of their domiciles, whether in the capital or in their constituency .
