The International Criminal Police Organization plans to strengthen its crackdown on cryptocurrency-related crimes by creating a dedicated division.

Interpol, the world's largest law enforcement organization, has set up a task force in Singapore to help governments fight crimes involving virtual assets, India's Business Standard news agency reported on October 17.< /p>

Interpol made the announcement at a press conference ahead of its 90th general assembly in Delhi, which will be attended by senior police officials among its 195 members from October 18-21.

According to Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock, the lack of a legal framework for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) poses major challenges for law enforcement . "Because very often agencies aren't properly trained and properly equipped" to tackle cryptocurrency crimes early on, Stock reportedly noted.

Stock also pointed out that cryptocurrency and cybercrime will be at the center of the agenda at Interpol's general meeting in India.
