Rajasthan looked beaten at 129-6, needing 69 from 24 balls, but Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel hit 53 from three overs, including 19 off Curran in the 18.

But Curran, whose 1 contract, £85million is the most expensive in IPL history, kept his cool, conceding just 10 in the 20th.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 86 off 56 balls in Punjab's 197-4.

Victory means they have won their first two games by only third time.

Ellis plays Punjab lead

Punjab seemed to be in control of the game after dressmaker Nathan Ellis took four wickets in his first three overs.

He picked up Jos Buttler on the power play, with the England captain of the white ball appearing to struggle after needing stitches in a finger injury sustained during a catch in the field.
