Iran arrests seven with British links after anti-government protests

Seven people with links to the British have been arrested by Iran's Revolutionary Guards after anti-government protests in the country.

The UK Foreign Office is seeking further information on the detainees, several of whom have dual citizenship, as an Iranian state media bulletin claimed the detainees were leading recent protests over the death of Mahsa Amini.

Protesters demanded the overthrow of Iran's clerical leaders following the tragic death of Ms. Amini, 22, who died in police custody.

Ms. Amini was arrested for allegedly inappropriate dress as her hair was not properly covered.

"On the way to the police station, she was tortured and insulted," her cousin Erfan Mortezaei told Sky News.

The 22-year-old then died.

The young woman's death sparked widespread outrage across the country, and in an unprecedented movement, women and men have taken to the streets in recent months to challenge the regime.

Now the regime is fighting back and starting to prosecute people for their involvement and reports indicate that dual British-Iranian nationals have been arrested.
