Jason Aldean made his first public appearance since CMT released his music video for "Try That in a Small Town" after backlash ensued saying the song encouraged violence.

The country star was at a show in Cincinnati where he addressed the crowd after what he called "a long week" for him.

"I've seen a lot suggesting I'm this, suggesting I'm that," Aldean said during his concert with the crowd booing in support. "Here's one thing I feel, I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can think something all you want, that doesn't mean it's true. What I am is a proud American… I love our country. I want to see him restored to how he was before all this bullshit started happening to us. I love my country, I love my family and I will do everything to protect it."

The audience was then heard chanting "USA! UNITED STATES! United States!"

Aldean continued, "You know what it's like, these days, cancel culture is one thing. It's something that if people don't like what you say, they try to make sure they can cancel you, which means trying to mess up your life, mess up everything. One thing I've seen this week, c "is a bunch of country music fans who can see through a lot of bullshit. I've seen country music fans come together like I've never seen before and it was pretty badass I must say. Thank you so much guys."

The lyrics associated with images from the music video for "Try That in a Small Town" disturbed many people. In part of the song, Aldean sings, "I got a gun my grandpa gave me, they say someday they're gonna get together, well that shit might fly around town, good luck."

Sheryl Crow took to social media to challenge Aldean, saying her lyrics were “not American or small town. It just sucks."

Back at the Cincinnati show, Aldean added, "I know a lot of you guys grew up like me. You sort of have the same values, the same principles that I do, which is we want to take our kids to the movies and not worry about some asshole coming in and shooting the theater. So someone m asked, "Hey man, do you think you're going to play this song tonight?" The answer was simple. People have spoken and you have spoken very, very loudly this week."
