Jeremy Corbyn is set to be barred from standing as a Labor candidate in the next general election, and Sir Keir Starmer is expected to table a motion confirming the move at a party meeting . governing body.

The Labor leader will put forward a motion making it clear that the National Executive Committee will not endorse Mr Corbyn in the next election, due in about 18 months.

Sir Keir expelled the left-leaning veteran from Labor last month as he insisted the party had undergone a transformation under his leadership.

The motion, which the NEC is expected to back at a meeting on Tuesday said the MP for Islington North 'will not be endorsed by the NEC as a candidate on behalf of Labor at the next general election'.

A senior Labor source said: "Keir Starmer has made it clear that Jeremy Corbyn will not be a Labor candidate in the next general election. Labor is now unrecognizable from whoever lost in 2019.

They added:" Tuesday's vote will confirm this and ensure that we can focus on our five missions to build a better Britain."

The suspended left-wing MP and his allies condemned the move as a "blatant attack" on democracy. The former leader insisted it was up to members of the North London constituency to choose their candidate.

Mr. Corbyn said Sir Keir had 'disparaged the democratic underpinnings' of Labor before the NEC's decision to officially bar him from standing for the party.

Left-wing pressure group Momentum accused Sir Keir of 'venal and deceitful' behaviour.

Sir Keir rules out Mr Corbyn standing again for Labor following news that the Equality and Human Rights Commission man has decided to lift the party from two years of special measures for his anti-Semitism failings under Mr Corbyn.

He currently sits in the Commons as an independent after he was suspended from the party for his response to the damning 2020 EHRC report which found Labor had breached the Equality Act.

The MP, who still retains his support within the party and in his constituency , could now be left with the possibility of running as an independent candidate for the seat.
