Kimmich and Nagelsmann hail Bayern's flawless attack

Joshua Kimmich and Julian Nagelsmann have praised Bayern Munich's attacking unity following Friday's 6-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern picked up two out of two wins to start the season following their 5-3 DFL-Supercup win over RB Leipzig last week, starting their Bundesliga campaign in equally stunning fashion.

They managed 23 shots, 10 of them on target, for a value of 4.2 expected goals (xG) compared to Frankfurt's 0.9 xG from eight attempts.

Kimmich opened the scoring with the fastest goal scored directly from a free-kick in the Bundesliga since November 2019, before Benjamin Pavard made it 2-0 against Bayern in the 10th minute.

Hosts Eintracht wasted a few golden chances, but Bayern were in scintillating form, with Sadio Mane - the first player to score in his first two appearances for the Bavarian club since Mario Mandzukic in 2012 - heading home for his Bundesliga debut before Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry make it 5-0 before half-time.

Bayern have now scored five times in the first half of their four Bundesliga away games, and although Manuel Neuer's error offered consolation to Frankfurt, Musiala's second crowned a supreme display from the 10 defending champions, who clearly didn't miss Robert Lewandowski.

"It really made me want to be on the court today," Kimmich told reporters. "Of course, a point of criticism is always that we failed to keep a clean sheet again.

"It was not bad to go forward. The front four, it's fun! Something can happen there. We must not let go, but we can approach the next games with a good feeling."

Nagelsmann added: "The energy was exceptional in the first half. In the second half it was normal to slow down. It's also a bit smart if you look at the schedule for the next few months.

"In terms of football, the first half was very, very nice to watch. We are very flexible at the top, Mane gives us more flexibility. It's already difficult to defend. You can feel a very good energy, and you can see it in the performance.”

Thomas Muller, who equaled Hans Georg Schwarzenbeck's 416 Bundesliga outings for Bayern (the second most outfield player) and provided two assists, said: "Perfect when you win the game of opening here 6-1. It was a bespoke start."

Frankfurt must now turn their attention to the Super Cup against Real Madrid, and Oliver Glasner has offered few excuses for his team's performance, simply accepting that Bayern are in a league of their own.

"Bayern were just too good for us today," Glasner said. “You have to admit it. You've seen today what happens when you provide that attacking space, which is lots of chances and goals. We had no chance today."
