Labor MP apologizes for swearing 'outburst' in Commons during Rwanda debate

A Labor MP has apologized for his “outburst” after being heard swearing in the House of Commons.

Clive Lewis could being heard loudly saying "s* **" before leaving the room, as MPs voted on the government's Rwanda Security (Asylum and Immigration) Bill.

But the MP for Norwich South later said this happened after receiving a message which “caused me some consternation and surprise” and was not addressed to anyone in particular.

Deputy Speaker Sir Roger Gale had told the House: “I have been informed that a Member of Parliament this evening swore at one of the doormen who on my instructions, lock the doors.

“If this person is identified, the consequences will be very serious. »

Deputies have a time limit to vote during a division and doormen are instructed to do so. lock the doors to the voting hall once that time has expired.

But Mr Lewis then made a point of order to say: "I would like to record, if I can, my apologies to the House, to members and staff, for an earlier outburst I had.

"If I could very quickly explain, I received a message that caused me some consternation and surprise to which I made an explosion in general towards no one specifically. mouth, and I apologize for that.
