Labour must seize the chance and prepare to turn Britain into power again, says Angela Rayner.

In a resounding speech closing the party conference in Liverpool, she urged members to prepare for an election.

The Labor deputy leader said now was “the time to show the country that we are ready to govern”.

In a brutal slap in the face of Liz Truss' government, she argued that the Tories "no longer pretend to be competent and stable" as they "plunge us into chaos".

The country has seen days of extraordinary economic turbulence after Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's disastrous plan to hand over billions to the super-rich backfired spectacularly.
