Lancashire announces operating profit of £3m for 2022

Old Trafford cricket ground during England v South Africa

Club credited post-Covid recovery and busy schedule for results.

< p class="" data- reactid=".1ua0u51hki4.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-3">Last year Old Trafford staged England's test match against South Africa, two International a day and hosted four sold-out music concerts.

On the pitch, Lancashire finished second County Championship, T20 Blast and One-Day Cup.

"Following the incredibly difficult challenges we faced in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic -19, it has been fantastic to have a normal and successful year for the club,” Lancashire chief financial officer Angela Lowes said.

The club recorded an operating profit of £3,068,026 as it enjoyed a return to a full year of unrestricted crowds, after the previous two years were blighted by Covid and included the canceled Test match against India in September 2021, while the on-site Emirates Old Trafford hotel also recorded record revenues of £5.43million.

The ground hosted 40 days of cricket last summer across international, county match and Hundred action, including including England taking on South Africa in a Test in August and ODIs against Proteas and India the month before.

The four concerts included one of the Killers, maintained from 2020, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and two nights of Harry Styles.

This summer sees the opening of a new 1,300-seat grandstand which should be completed well before the sold-out fourth Ashes Test on July 19-23 , while a 100-room extension to the hotel is set to open later this year.
