Lewis Hamilton told to relax by Lando Norris after British GP break

Lando Norris stopped Lewis Hamilton as he praised McLaren's car after Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Norris finished ahead of Hamilton in P2 as the two Britons took the podium in their home run, and the latter was impressed with the 23-year-old's pace as he defended his position.

Norris led in the early stages of the race after getting off to a better start than pole sitter Max Verstappen.

But the dominant Dutchman sealed Red Bull's 11th straight win, and sixth on the rebound, to extend their lead in the 2023 Drivers' Championship.

That left Norris holding off Hamilton, who took advantage of a safety car after Kevin Magnussen's Haas fire to gain four places over rivals who had already pitted.

He beat the seven-time world champion to clinch his first podium at Silverstone and capped off a successful weekend for McLaren, with team-mate Oscar Piastri finishing in P4.

And while discussing the race with Verstappen in the post-race recovery room, Hamilton entered the fray with high praise for the car that had just propelled him to the checkered flag.

After putting his helmet down with a bright smile on his face, Hamilton approached the duo in conversation, saying, "What a rocket."

Norris was quick to silence the 38-year-old as he repeatedly gasped in disbelief, replying, "Okay mate, relax."

Despite picking up 18 points for McLaren which pleased the British crowd, Norris was determined to stay humble in victory over the veteran.

Hamilton also praised their former team in their post-race interview, admitting their Mercedes couldn't keep up with their pace.

"Congratulations to Lando and McLaren. That's where I started, so to see them come back up there so strong [it was good]," Hamilton told F1.

"This thing was fast in the high speed corners. Wow. I couldn't keep up, but we had a good little battle on the restart."

Norris said he enjoyed his "incredible" run with Hamilton in his post-match interview and congratulated McLaren on a memorable weekend.

He said, "That's pretty crazy. Thanks to the whole team, they did an amazing job. None of this would be possible without their hard work."
