Lil Baby, Tyler the Creator, G-Eazy Appear at Black Music Action Coalition Gala as Jon Platt and Kevin Liles Deliver Heartbreaking Speeches

Lil Baby received the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition on Thursday night at the Music in Gala stock prices.

After being presented with a congratulatory video from his mother Lashawn Jones and the founder of Quality Control Music Group Pierre Thomas (pictured above left alongside Lil Baby and QC's Kevin "Coach K" Lee) along with a letter written by Quincy Jones, the rapper took to the stage in a dapper black velvet suit, which he teamed with reading glasses on stage.

"Not only did you mark the history of music and influence the course of modern hip-hop , but you use your platform to give back to the community in a meaningful way. And that's what it's all about,” Jones said in his letter, which was read to the crowd by his son Quincy Jones III.

"Even to be recognized in music, let alone by a role model like Quincy Jones and the Black Music Coalition action,” Lil Baby began his succinct speech. "Honestly, I didn't know what a humanitarian award was, but upon closer inspection and starting to read, I realized that I am in fact a humanitarian."

The rapper was honored along with several other prominent music industry individuals and organizations, including "Big Jon" Platt, Nikole Hannah-Jones and Rep. Maxine Waters at the event.

Others at the black tie event included Tyler The Creator, who presented at the Team Amazon Music the BMAC and G-Eazy Social Impact Award.

Kevin Liles of Elektra Entertainment, who received the BMAC Social Impact Award, used his speech to advocate for his support of the Arts Protection Restoration Act (RAP), a bill introduced by Congressmen Hank Johnson and Jamaal Bowman that would limit the admissibility of evidence of creative or artistic expression against an artist before the courts.
