'Line of Duty' Season 7 Could Have 'Three or Four Episodes,' Says Adrian Dunbar

Actor Adrian Dunbar, who played Superintendent Hastings in six seasons of Jed Mercurio's hit BBC series 'Line of Duty', has speculated a seventh season.

Dunbar: "There's a big appetite for more 'Line of Duty'. It could be three or four episodes, I don't think there will be six for some reason. It could be two 90s minutes. But it's all up to Jed, what the script will be. That's a big ask for him."

The sixth season of the drama, which revolves around a British police anti-corruption unit, concluded with a big reveal that drew mixed reactions from audiences.

"It may not have been very satisfying and I can understand why people were like, 'Oh my God!' some of the biggest things that happen are just ordinary events the cop doesn't pass on information because he's been told not to and that's the only thing that can make that a heist works,” Dunbar told The Times.

“Nobody knew what 'Line of Duty' was going to be. When you're writing the second series, you might start thinking, 'It could go to three or four' – but six?,” Dunbar added. "And it's very difficult to introduce a new character, a Mr. Big at the end of the sixth season. You realize that it has to be someone we've seen before - it can't be someone one from absolutely nowhere. So it was a tough place to live."

On what might happen next season, Dunbar says, "It's going to be really good. Maybe someone is going to die. Someone is going to be threatened. He doesn't mind killing people. characters. Maybe he'll kill us all. A terrible car accident while rushing to a crime scene? We'll have to leave it to him."

When Variety asked Mercurio about season 7 of 'Line of Duty' and a second season of 'Bodyguard', he replied, "There are no updates to come. this topic."

Dunbar will next be seen in "Ridley," where he headlines the series as a retired cop drawn into an investigation. "Ridley" debuts on UK broadcaster ITV on August 28.
