Liverpool star accused of 'arrogance' as Klopp kicks him 'no matter what he does'

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been accused of being 'arrogant' as the Liverpool defender is started by Jurgen Klopp 'no matter what he does'.

The defender has been the target of criticism this season amid Liverpool's rocky start to the new campaign.

There is no doubt that Alexander-Arnold's talents are moving forward, especially with his cross and his ability to create chances for his teammates.

The highest rated player of the season of any Premier League club so far…

But his defensive abilities have often been questioned and this has come to the fore again in recent weeks.

Alexander-Arnold struggled earlier this week as Napoli ripped through Liverpool in their first Champions League group game.

The Serie A team led 3-0 at the break and eventually lost 4-1 in the evening.

It was arguably Liverpool's worst performance during Klopp's tenure and with their lingering injury problems he has major work to do to get his side back on track.

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand named Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez as players who shocked a 'lack of effort and desire' against Napoli:

“It was an embarrassing first 45 minutes for Liverpool, especially defensively,” Ferdinand said after the loss to Napoli.

"What you cannot accept as a manager or as a player is a lack of effort and desire. When people do not run or do not want to come back.< /p>

"Gomez makes the mistake but you have to come back and help your teammates and Trent didn't.

“Liverpool were teased, they were embarrassed, they showed up. That result came too. They were lackluster and lacked grit, determination and desire.”

Liverpool summer signing Calvin Ramsay is currently Alexander-Arnold's replacement at right-back.

He is currently out of action with a back injury and is not expected to return until the end of this month.

Gomez sometimes has surgery at right-back but centre-back is his preferred position.

Rob Segal is a football agent who has worked with Harry Winks and Brandon Williams.

He thinks Alexander-Arnold has displayed his "arrogance" in recent weeks:

"Liverpool have major injury issues which haven't helped and a player like Trent Alexander-Arnold probably needs an extended rest," Segal told Caught Offside.< /p>

"However, due to his position at the club, you can sense his arrogance as he slowly returns towards goal.

"Alexander-Arnold knows that no matter what he does, good or bad, he is likely to start week after week.

"It's no secret that Alexander-Arnold is much better in attack than he is defensively, so his weaknesses need to be covered and unfortunately for Klopp, at the moment none of the full-backs in his team is not playing particularly well.< /p>

"The timing of their fall from form was truly unfortunate."
