Anxiously Tied Up: An Interview with Jessica Baum

Jessica Baum, founder of The Relationship Institute of Palm Beach and its sister company Be Self-full®, is a Certified Addiction Specialist specializing in chemical abuse, codependency, and anxiety. She is also an Imago therapist and uses the Imago approach to treat family systems and relationship issues.

After struggling with depression and anxiety, and noticing that there wasn't much information explaining what happens to your body when you experience mental health issues, she decided to write a book explaining anxiety, anxious attachment and how to work towards a safer state.

In her book, Anxiously Attached: Becoming More Secure in Life and Love, Jessica discusses through a personal lens the multiple layers of attachment theory, including how we develop certain styles styles, how these styles are triggered in our daily lives, and how we can learn to manage them in healthy and fulfilling ways – with ourselves and with our partners.

During my interview with Jessica, we covered a variety of different topics that appear in her book, including:

Her experience with attachment My experience with attachment How and why attachment styles are formed The anxious-avoidant dance Co-dependency, co-regulation and co-dysregulation The little me we all have inside Healing – in ourselves and in our relationships The importance of self-love and self-compassion Sitting with our anxious feelings The Role of Boundaries in Our Lives and Relationships So much more!

Healing doesn't happen overnight, and it's not something you can snap your fingers and achieve. Healing from anxious attachment and avoidant attachment, and coming to a safer place in your life and relationships, means sitting with lots of difficult or challenging feelings while acknowledging those feelings and where they come from.

Jessica's book contains a lot of valuable and useful information to accompany your journey through understanding your attachment style and how to work with it rather than against it in your life.
