Liz Truss has been accused of leaving office as British Representative Foreign Secretary since joining the Tory leadership race nearly 50 days ago.

The Tory frontrunner had been absent from "virtually all" of her ministerial duties at the past 46 days, according to the Liberal Democrats - claiming she was mocking one of the state's major offices.

The party said Ms Truss had only had two phone calls in as Foreign Secretary, and no in-person meetings with ministerial counterparts or foreign ambassadors, since his last physical engagement at the G20 summit in Indonesia at the beginning of July.

'Liz Truss has decided to take a self-imposed sabbatical from her role as Britain's longest-serving graduate,' the Lib Dems' foreign affairs spokeswoman said , Layla Moran.

“She spent months more concerned with pursuing her own career than defending the national interest,” Ms. Moran added. "His mask has slipped off and his disdain for diplomacy and Britain's position in the world is plain as day."

Ms Truss cut short her attendance at the Foreign Ministers meeting from the G20 and returned to London on July 7, the day Boris Johnson finally stepped down as Prime Minister.
