Liz Truss to bring back mandatory tie for staff of No 10 as she seeks to stamp her authority in power and distance herself from the Boris Johnson era, we have learned.

Dominic Cummings, one of the main aides to the former prime minister, has often been photographed in Downing Street wearing casual clothes, eschewing shirts and suits, opting for a more casual style.

But the new prime minister is reportedly keen to step away of what critics described as the "chaotic" of its predecessor Operation No. 10, which was embroiled in a host of scandals.

Ms Truss, who today presented her cost plan for life, made known her view when she returned to Admiralty House after her victory party in the City of L ondon, the night before she became PM, according to a source.

They told The Daily Telegraph: "It all grew out of Liz coming back after winning and telling Admiralty staff that the links were back."

Mr. Johnson officially left office on Tuesday when Ms Truss traveled to Balmoral to meet the Queen, who asked her to form a government after winning the Conservative Party leadership race, beating Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor .

The former prime minister resigned earlier this year when dozens of ministers quit their government posts in protest at the handling of the Chris Pincher affair.
