'Liz Truss has left Tory MPs so furious they are already plotting to oust her'

It was a week of ups and downs for Keir Starmer and Liz Truss.

The Labor leader is up in the polls and in public esteem after the most successful Labor conference in memory since Tony Blair.

He is now on track to follow Sir Tony in putting Labor back on the path back to power.

If Ms Truss is at rock bottom, it's no less than she deserves after trashing the UK economy.

The only increases from his prime ministership so far are prices, mortgages and millionaire bank balances thanks to his 45p tax cut.

A mini-budget to deal with the cost of living crisis has instead lined the pockets of the already wealthy while paving the way for another bout of austerity for the rest of us.

The hope now that the Tories are gathering in Birmingham for their conference is that it will own up to its mistake and overturn the budget that has done so much harm.

But we are afraid to hope in vain.

The Prime Minister now intends to mess up public services and cut benefits by linking them to earnings, not inflation.

That would be piling one cruel mistake on another. The good news is that Tory MPs are so furious they're plotting to oust him.

Which would make Sir Keir's road to power shorter than it seems.
