Hardware maker Logitech G and software giant Tencent Games are teaming up. The two companies are joining forces to take portable cloud gaming to new heights. The new partnership aims to bring a new portable cloud gaming device to market by the end of 2022.

The new device is supposed to support several cloud gaming services. Both companies are already working with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now teams on the project.

"Logitech G's leadership in PC and console gaming gear makes it an ideal partner to help us achieve our vision of delivering a better gaming experience to gamers around the world," said Daniel Tencent's Wu in a blog post. "Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to push the boundaries of gaming devices."

As the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck have shown, gamers love being able to play anywhere. Being able to get up and move around is nice. Being able to play in bed can be the height of comfort.

But the Switch and the Steam Deck have limited catalogs. A device with the mobility of these, but with a much wider catalog thanks to cloud gaming seems like a no-brainer.

Cloud gaming is something of a holy grail for the gaming industry. As games have become bigger and bigger, users often don't have the space to install everything. The problems get worse if a player lives somewhere with a data cap.

Grand Theft Auto V, for example, requires around 100 GB to download. If you download it in advance to play it, it's your hard disk space occupied and part of the data lost. But if you play it on the cloud, you only burn about 2.5 GB of data per hour at 720p resolution.

If you beat it or get bored in less than 40 hours, you're the winner.

I'm lucky that I don't have a data cap. But I don't have much space either. I also play a lot of different games at the same time, which means installing and removing quite frequently. And all this happens in a computer chair.
