A band performs on the roof of a van as queues pile up at the Port of Calais

A band held an impromptu concert on the roof of their van while stuck in long queues in Calais yesterday.

Passengers waiting to cross the English Channel with P&O Ferries faced delays, with some saying they had to wait up to seven hours.

A conductor spotted a band unpacking their instruments, then filming the rooftop drummer, stool and all, while playing a jazzy tune.

The keyboardist can also be seen sitting up there with his legs dangling to the side as he accompanies the drummer.

A third band member was spotted pulling out his guitar to join us.

Other travelers got out of their cars to listen to the pop-up concert.

Posting the video to Twitter, the driver said: "Ridiculous queues in Calais BUT WE HAVE THIS."

He identified the group as Bristol Street Music, often seen on the streets of the West Country town.

The band consists of Alex Veitch on keyboards, Samuel Fox on bass and Chris Langton on drums.

According to the band's social media feed, they recently performed in Marseille.

Another queue who spotted the performance said: "Total carnage in Calais, but fair play to these brilliant musicians to alleviate the 3 hours - so far - of crippling boredom and chaos. "
