Maker Faire Philly busts myths and more this weekend

This Saturday at the Independence Seaport Museum, Maker Faire Philly brings together makers, inventors and creators busy busting myths and more. The Independence Seaport Museum, a museum dedicated to discovering and preserving Philadelphia's maritime history, sponsors and hosts the event along the Philadelphia waterfront. This amazing place even features the oldest floating steel warship in the world, the cruiser Olympia and the WWII submarine Becuna. We reached out to the producers at Maker Faire Philly and they shared ten reasons to get out there and get made this Saturday.

10. It's fun for all ages!

After a multi-year hiatus, The Greatest Show & Tell on Earth is bringing creators out of the carpentry to create, inspire and entertain!

9. Arts!

Artists include Tommy Mintz, who creates an interactive algorithmic generation of time-lapse viewers and Yemisi Ajayi, an innovative textile artist working in traditional Yoruba fabric, patterns and dyeing.

8. Craft!

Come meet the folks at Tuft the World, learn how to tuft a rug, and learn about Lynette Rodriguez of Light Bird Crafts who makes handmade ceramics inspired by nature.

Your Philly Maker Faire ticket also allows you to wander beyond the Makers to discover the wonders of the Independence Seaport Museum, including the Seaport Boat Shop and the powerful Tides of Freedom exhibit that explores the concept of freedom through the prism of the African experience. .

Check out the first desktop 3D holographic printer from LitiHolo, South Jersey Combo Robotics and the Princeton Soccer Robotics team.

5. Craft Stuff!

Make a light-up bracelet to take home with the Please Touch Museum, then head to sponsor Blacksmith Cupola Academy to build a paper circuit.

4. Green Creators!

Epoch Boats is a start-up that designs and manufactures electric hydrofoils and Baleena is dedicated to reducing microplastic emissions, promoting environmental education and reducing the collective plastic footprint of the humanity.
