Make it easier to find in-game jobs during an economic downturn

With 11,000 layoffs at Meta (Facebook) and 3,500 at Twitter over the past week, the downturn plaguing the tech industry is getting serious. There are also gaming-related layoffs at major corporations, and it looks like the gaming industry won't be immune to these (hopefully temporary) setbacks.

But I found people doing work that will help those looking for work in the video game industry. Amir Satvat, Senior Publishing Producer at Amazon Games, has compiled a regularly updated list of game company job openings, along with other resources for job seekers.

His current roster has over 13,000 jobs across 117 game companies, and you'll see the spreadsheet link below, along with his other resources. It's a pretty amazing document for current job seekers, with links to the sites and types of positions that are open.

And, unfortunately, it's very timely. Layoffs.fyi tracked 119,155 layoffs across 776 tech companies in 2022.

Since September, we have seen layoffs at Snap (1,200), Credit Suisse (5,000), SoftBank (500), Twilio (800), DocuSign (670), Microsoft, Seagate, Zillow (300), Twitter (3,500), Stripe (1,120), Lyft (650), Salesforce (less than 1,000), and Redfin (862). And this week Meta (Facebook) laid off 11,000 people, or 13% of its workforce, as Mark Zuckerberg said the pandemic momentum for social media didn't last.

This makes Satvat help for job seekers welcome. He noted that he had received help from recruiters at developers and publishers who knew him and he added the data to the job tracker. It basically follows developers or publishers with five or more vacancies, and it updates the list regularly via LinkedIn.

In addition to the openings list, it also has a link to a drop box with a resume template, cover letter template, job watchlist, and self-questionnaire for research employment.

It has links to a guide on using these materials together, another guide on preparing for work processes, an interview preparation guide, an interview preparation guide for Amazon specifically, an FAQ common questions about the job and an article on how he stays up to date on the games.

Laura Thompson also has a link to job boards on LinkedIn.
