Fernandes has lost his mind in the last 12 months, having been dazzled when he arrived at the club.

But he looks a rejuvenated man in the last two games, having been named captain for games against Liverpool and Southampton.

Fernandes scored in the second half with a thunderbolt that sailed into the bottom corner, before celebrating afterwards with Cristiano Ronaldo.

If he can continue to play at this level, receiving the armband permanently is not ruled out.

Fernandes is a leader at United and, let's face it, Ten Hag has lacked that since his appointment.

United are trying to sign Antony from Ajax before the transfer window closes, after seeing two offers for the Brazil international rejected.

And it's clear the Red Devils need an upgrade on Anthony Elanga at the moment.

This is no affront to Elanga, whose tenacity is admirable. But when it comes to end product and being a threat, the Swede still has a lot to learn.

Antony is an explosive asset to Ajax and is keen to move to United before Thursday's deadline.

It's easy to see why Ten Hag wants the 22-year-old, having already managed him during their time in Amsterdam together.
