Man Utd 'assess' Bundesliga star as Ten Hag eyes second centre-back after €55m Ajax man

Reports say Man Utd are 'evaluating' a move for Bundesliga star Felix Uduokhai this summer as the club want two centre-backs.

Erik ten Hag has become United manager ahead of next season. They have already brought in Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen.

The Red Devils are also expected to announce the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax for 55 million euros.

Are we about to find out Joel Glazer was right all along about Man Utd's Pele?

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (via Sport Witness) reports that United are keen to sign a second new centre-back.

Udiokhai is 'rated' by Man Utd and is trying to 'strengthen his rearguard'.

The report notes that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have also shown interest in him in recent months.

The German Under-21 international signed permanently with FC Augsburg in 2020 for around 9 million euros.

His 2021/22 campaign has been hampered by injuries as he has only been able to start in the league eight times.

Elsewhere, Ten Hag was encouraged to find someone "better quality" than Scott McTominay.

The central midfielder was among the United players criticized last season. They underperformed as they finished sixth in the Premier League.

The Red Devils fought back from behind to beat Melbourne Victory on Friday in their second pre-season friendly

McTominay got on the scoresheet against Melbourne Victory and he also made an appearance as United beat Liverpool 4-0 earlier this week.

Mikael Silvestre played more than 350 times for United between 1999 and 2008. He thinks some players 'should get ahead of' McTominay next season:

"I think he [McTominay] had a tough season, like most of the team," Silvestre told Lord Ping (quotes via The Daily Star).

"I think he has enough quality to play for Manchester United and a solid servant to the club since the Academy.

"In terms of a top quality midfielder? There are other players in the market who should be ahead of him, but in a rotation he can definitely add value.

"Scott can be a starter, but ideally you want someone with better quality in the middle of the park to put the team in contention for the Premier League's top spot."
