The Lang/van Dyne family embark on an exciting new adventure into the subatomic realm in the first official trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. As we previously reported, the release next month of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will mark the end of phase four of what is officially being called The Multiverse Saga (encompassing Phases Four, Five and Six). Quantumania will initiate phase 5.

We saw preview footage from both San Diego Comic-Con and D23, featuring a villainous version of Kang (Jonathan Majors), a time-traveling adversary from the multiverse premiering once as He Who Remains in the first season finale of Loki. (The Majors said the Kang in the movie isn't the same as the One Who Remains.) This footage also showed Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) confronting Kang, who was apparently holding Scott's now-teenage daughter. , Cassie (Kathryn Newton) captive. Kang promised to free Cassie if Scott would help her recover something that was stolen from her.

Otherwise, little is known about the film, other than that the four main characters return. The same goes for Randall Park as FBI Agent Jimmy Woo, Scott's former parole officer, as well as Gregg Turkington as Scott Baskin-Robbins' former boss Dale. According to the official premise:

Superhero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Along with Hope's parents, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond. beyond the limits of what they thought. was possible.

There is going to be an appearance from MODOK, and Bill Murray has been cast in an as yet undisclosed villainous role. We get the briefest glimpse of his character in the new trailer, which is set to the mellow tones of Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." It opens with a montage of Scott happily going about his day, enjoying the townspeople's collective admiration for his superhero work with the Avengers, even though some people mistake him for Spider-Man. It happens.

Things are looking pretty good on the home front too, with Cassie working on a new invention which she proudly shows off to the Lang/Van Dyne clan: "It's like a satellite for deep space, but quantum." Janet, who was lost in the Quantum Realm for years until her reappearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp, immediately seems concerned. "Sending a signal to the Quantum Realm? Turn it off. Now."

But it's too late. The whole family is sucked into the Quantum Realm, which is very different from their previous incarnations in the MCU. It seems to be some kind of technologically advanced futuristic city. Clearly, Janet kept her time there a big secret, describing the kingdom as "a secret universe beneath ours." Enter Kang, who promises Scott that he can get the family home back, if Scott helps Kang in return. We assume this is a trade-off that has quite significant repercussions.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters February 17, 2023.
