A military museum has asked visitors to stop having sex at the historic site after new security cameras caught several 'vigorous' couples in the act.

The Fort Gerhard Museum, a former 19th-century Prussian fortress in the coastal town of Świnoujście in Poland, said it saw "three lovers having a date" in the span of a month.

Fort Gerhard Museum wrote on social media: ""Our guests are kindly requested… how to say… no ars amandi [the art of love] in the museum, please! "

The message added: "We ask our loving guests to be understanding - most of the exhibits in our museum are many years old and are used to entirely different moral standards - conservative, even orthodox and sober. Let's not expose them to discomfort!"

According to the museum's website, its exhibits ranged from "the time of Frederick the Great to the end of the Cold War".

Museum director Piotr Piwowarczyk told local newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza: "In less than a month we have already had three recordings of lovers engaged in dating.

"Visitors to the fort have a variety of temperaments, some of them very conservative. We don't want them to be shocked when they visit by coming across a couple engaged in lustful antics."

He said the lovers might have been lured into the dark recesses of the museum and not realize they were being watched by cameras.

Mr. Piwowarczyk urged those who couldn't control their desire to head to the beach, according to the Daily Mail.
