Liz Truss and her new Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng will present a mini-budget next week, setting out the government's economic priorities as the cost of living crisis takes hold.

During the Tory leadership race, Ms Truss pledged to hold an 'emergency budget' to help grow the economy after the Bank of England warned the country was facing to the prospect of a recession.

She said, "As Prime Minister, I would use an emergency budget to kick-start my plan to grow our economy and provide immediate relief to people struggling with their bills."

What's actually happening is quite different, after she refused to authorize growth forecasts that would lift the veil on her spending plans. It was also derailed by the Queen's death.

The plan will confirm the tax cuts she promised during the leadership race and spell out some details on how the promised energy bill freeze will be funded.
