There are few jobs more despicable than the practice of trophy hunting.

It takes a particularly evil state of mind to want to slaughter a magnificent animal and then keep its body parts as a souvenir.

MPs from all political divisions yesterday condemned this barbaric lawsuit, backing a new law to prevent the importation of animal parts of endangered species.

The vote is a victory for the Mirror's campaign against trophy hunting, it's a victory for conservation and compassion - and it's a victory for our readers who have supported our call and lobbied members to do the right thing.

Thanks to your support, fewer endangered animals will be slaughtered for sport. You've helped protect lions, elephants, giraffes and others whose numbers have plummeted.

The new law will also pressure other nations to take similar action so that this cruel and depraved trade will finally end.
