Russia: A huge fire rages in a shopping center in Moscow

A man was tragically killed Friday in a massive fire that engulfed a shopping center on the northwestern outskirts of Moscow.

The huge fire broke out before the mall opened its doors to customers and engulfed the entire 17,000 square meter building in flames.

Authorities said the fire at the OBI store, which is part of the MEGA shopping center in Khimki, outside the Russian capital, was started by welders who apparently violated safety regulations.< /p>

The fire is believed to have started on the roof of the Mega Khimki shopping center and thick plumes of smoke were seen rising into the sky.

It began shortly before 6:00 a.m. local time, and footage posted on social media by residents living nearby showed the fire and what appear to be explosions.
