Britain's most expensive street revealed - where house prices average £24m

Britain's most expensive street has been revealed as Phillimore Gardens in London's Kensington and Chelsea borough.

According to an annual Halifax review, the average house price on the street is £24m.

Phillimore Gardens was built in the early 18th century and sits on the Phillimore Estate, on land acquired by the wealthy Phillimore family.

It stretches from the Duchess of Bedford Walk to Kensington High Street and its neighbors Holland Park.

Unsurprisingly, the Halifax review revealed that London dominates the top 10 most expensive streets to live in in the country.

Less than three miles from Mayfair, properties in Grosvenor Square cost an average of £23.5million.

And in third place is London's picturesque Illchester Place, where houses now cost an average of £17.7million.

Outside the capital, buyers would need £1.5m compared to securing an exclusive postcode in the North East or East Midlands.

Kim Kinnaird, Mortgage Manager, Halifax, said: "For almost everyone, these homes and their sky-high prices are the raw material for fantastic house hunts.

"Unsurprisingly, London roads occupy the top 10 streets of the UK, and buying a house in London's Phillimore Gardens could cost you an average of £24million.

“That said, the price of a prestigious address can vary hugely from country to country. Living on the most expensive street in the North East or East Midlands will cost around £1.5million sterling."
