Nadine Dorries finally resigned as MP with a savage farewell to Rishi Sunak.

The ex-culture secretary, who clung to her seat for more than two months after announcing she would step down, sent a blistering 1,778-word letter to Mr Sunak, in which she accused the Prime Minister of betraying Tory principles and "whipping" "a public frenzy" against her. Ms Dorries said she would step down in June in an act of revenge against Mr Sunak, whom she accused of being snubbed for the peerage when Boris Johnson quit.

But she broke her promise for more than 10 weeks, sparking anger among her constituents who accused her of abandoning them. She finally confirmed her resignation on Saturday, paving the way for a by-election in her Mid Bedfordshire seat in the fall.

In a scathing letter, Ms Dorries accused Mr Sunak of presiding over a 'zombie Parliament' and warned that 'history will not judge you kindly'. She asked, "What exactly did you do or achieve?" You hold the post of unelected Prime Minister, without a single vote, not even from your own MPs. You have no mandate from the people and the government is adrift. squandered the goodwill of the nation, for what reason? Downing Street declined to comment.
