Former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has finally resigned as MP – more than 10 weeks after announcing her intention to quit – with a scathing attack on Rishi Sunak .

< p>In her resignation letter, Boris Johnson's staunch ally accused the PM of 'humiliating his office by opening doors to stir up a public frenzy' against her.

< p>The Tory MP has faced intense pressure to officially step down, having previously insisted she would stay on until Mr Sunak's government reveals documents about the decision to deny him a peerage on Mr Johnson's honor roll.

His resignation will give Mr Sunak another headache, triggering a crisis Mid Bedfordshire elections which could be as early as September, just after the defeats pains of the Tories in Yorkshire and Somerset, despite successfully clinging on to Mr Johnson's former seat in Uxbridge.

His letter of resignation, published in the Daily Mail and running to more than 1,750 words, comes a day after the Liberal Democrats pledged to table a 'Dosser Dorries' bill as soon as Parliament returns to suspend her as an MP.

In a scathing attack, sent 78 days after promising to step down, she wrote to the Prime Minister: “Since you took office a year ago, the country has been run by a zombie Parliament where nothing significant happened. What exactly was done or did you achieve?
