The New York Carnival and the 2022 West Indies Day Parade are back in Brooklyn!

New York Carnival & West Indian Day Parade 2022 is a celebration of Caribbean culture with a Trinbagonian (Trinidad and Tobago) accent. It is the largest Caribbean carnival in North America.

The West Indies can mean all of the islands in the Caribbean, but in this case it means the Lesser Antilles, including Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent. On the northeast coast of South America, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana share the Trinbagonian culture. Haiti is included because it was the French Caribbean and the Haitian Revolution caused a diaspora across the West Indies and the Caribbean. Jamaica is also part of it because the English are the English colonizers.

The West Indian Day Parade is the highlight, but the New York Labor Day Carnival is a full carnival with events for children, youth, a Brass Fest, a Steel Pan contest and a Shrove Sunday (Sunday Party). There are specific characters of the Trinbagonian carnival. Look for them.

To truly experience the Labor Day Carnival in New York, join a mas (carnival group), get ready with your mas, and participate in the parade. You'll be glad you did.
