On October 14, NFT Steez, a bi-weekly Twitter space hosted by Alyssa Expósito and Ray Salmond, sat down with Cryptoys founder Will Weinraub to discuss the current role of gaming and toys in regards to their integration with no fungible tokens and Web3 as a whole.

Weinraub thinks that the act of play is "not limited to children" and thinks that as adults, "we always want to play throughout life." According to Weinraub, thanks to the development of technology, "the game has evolved." Non-fungible tokens, especially in games, have highlighted this layer of game-based ownership.

Technology will continue to evolve "play"

Weinraub and Cryptoys believe that "adults are just looking for ways to feel like kids again." Keeping the question of "how does the game evolve" front and center, Weinraub says it's a fundamental tenet of his experience with the evolution of the game.

From action figures to watching his kids build virtual worlds in Roblox, Weinraub highlighted how the internet has profoundly catalyzed an evolution in gaming and games. Players are no longer restricted to the boundaries of their neighborhoods or geographic locations, according to Weinraub.

Weinraub pointed out that the content of the game is "very, very, different" and that it leans more towards "social play", regardless of geographical barriers, compared to the game of previous decades.

Asked about concerns about the comfort level of children and young adults with their digital interactions versus their real-life social interactions, Weinraub acknowledged that the situation exists. However, he said that while it may "impact some people, it may also amplify some of it."

The evolution of gaming seems to be moving towards more "social gaming" and in many ways it could be designed to "improve communication skills", Weinraub claims.
