10-Year N2 Billion Naira Debt Affecting Our Operations - NECO to States

The National Examinations Council (NECO) says N2 billion in examination fees owed by some states affects its operations.

The Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, spoke to reporters on Friday in Lagos.

Wushishi proctored 2022 High School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in progress.

The official called on five states that have yet to pay their nominee fees to do so.

The head of NECO further disclosed that the debt dates back to the year 2012.

“Some states have started to react, while others have not yet made any attempt,” he quoted NAN as saying.

He explained that the council executes the capital projects and the overhead of the examination fees because the government does not make the arrangements.

“The federal government only pays staff salaries. We have challenges all over our offices regarding equipment, infrastructure and other things.

"We are letting these states know the importance of meeting their financial obligations to the council, to keep it afloat."

A total of 1,209,000 candidates are taking part in this year's exam, which began nationwide on June 27.
