10th NASS: North Central Elected Senators Choose Senate Vice President

Elected Senators from the North-Central Geopolitical Zone gathered in Abuja on Friday and endorsed Senator Sani Musa as Deputy Speaker of the Senate in the 10th National Assembly.

Senator-elect from Nasarawa West Senatorial District Aliyu Wadada, who called the meeting, said he would not settle for any position other than Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

Wadada also said the caucus was in synergy with his colleagues in the House of Representatives on the issue.

The caucus urged the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee and President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to respect the aspirations and wishes of the North Central in this regard.

Wadada said, "We convene this meeting to welcome Mr. President-elect after his trip abroad.

"We also appreciate his willingness to ensure that justice and equity take place in the distribution of leadership positions across all geopolitical zones.

"We are aware that there are agitations from different geopolitical zones over the positions of President of the Senate, Vice President of the Senate, President and Vice President.

"We are aware of these agitations. The South-West and the North-East having produced the President and the Vice-President respectively, the Center-North is therefore of the position and position that the lesser position for which we will go is that of Vice-President of the Senate.

"It's not fair for today. The North Central Caucus has been consistent since the beginning of the policy which will lead to the urgency of the leadership of the National Assembly.

“We are for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Senate. We will work in harmony and mutually with the other geopolitical areas of Nigeria.

"When asked if the elected members of the North Central Caucus of the House of Representatives were on the same page on the issue, Wadada replied "there has been a synergy from home "

He said, "There's already a synergy from back home because we're all from the mid-north. However, that doesn't stop the House Caucus from demanding what they want.< /p>

"Ultimately, we will strike a balance. For now, we are for the Vice President of the Senate and we endorse Senator Sani Musa, who is our caucus chair"
