2023: Banky W seeks funds to run for House of Reps

Famous Nigerian singer, Olubankole Wellington, better known by his stage name Banky W, is appealing for funds to run for political office in Lagos.

Banky W emerged victorious in the PDP House of Representatives and repeated the primaries for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State in June.

Banky W won the PDP primaries for the constituency held on May 22 statewide, which the party later canceled.

The musician and actor, however, won the postponed election with an overwhelming vote of 24 to 5.

Banky W, who joined the PDP in June, solicited public funding on his official social media on Monday afternoon while soliciting fan support to win the seat in 2023.

He wrote: "If Impact is really the goal, then we must no longer just shout from the sidelines; we must get into the system and fix it."

To further aid his plea for public support, the singer pointed out that traditional Nigerian politics is a complex and expensive business.

He urged people to take his message as an invitation to partner with him on the journey.

In the 2019 general election, he ran for the same seat under the Modern Democratic Party, a political party founded in 2017 by some youth associations but lost.
