National Labor Party leader Dugu Manuga said on Monday that for Peter Obi's presidency to happen, women must take ownership of the electoral process.

Speaking at the mobilization engagement of the State Labor Party and "Obidientes" women organized in Gombe to sensitize the groups ahead of the 2023 elections, Manuga, reminded them of their power to determine success of their candidates.

According to Manuga, there was a need for women to reach out, engage, mobilize, organize and protect their mandate, underscoring otherwise Obi's aspiration would not be realistic.

Our correspondent reports that the meeting also featured the presentation of reports by women leaders from the local government areas of Akko, Yalmatu and Deba.

She said that without ownership, the results could work against the favor of the party candidate.

Manuga said: "We need to take ownership and make sure we do what we need to do, so that the Labor Party succeeds in Gombe and in the nation as a whole. We will protect our mandate."

Continuing her comments, the leader explained, "Women take ownership when they see themselves as the ones who can make what you aspire to happen. If I see it's mine that it is incumbent to make Labor win so I have taken ownership of it and I will do my best to work for the success of the party in the polls and wards You should feel that if Labor fails where I am, then I failed."

While praising Obi's foresight, particularly in involving women in the campaign, Manuga said Obi would achieve 35% affirmative action, if elected.

"Peter Obi says he will give 35-40% of appointments to women. It will not be less than 35%. Remember when he was Governor of Anambra State, it was 40%, not just 40%, he gave strong positions to women, which they traditionally don't give to women,” Manuga added.

Also speaking, Chief Women of State Yelwa Manzo called on women to get involved to ensure the success of Labor Party candidates at the polls.

She said that in local government areas, many women were mobilized to help bring about Peter Obi and other candidates.
