Presidency 2023: Senator Adeyeye speaks on the division of Afenifere on Tinubu

Sen. Dayo Adeyeye, national chairman of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA), said that Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, is not divided over its support for the presidential ambition of the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju. Bola Tinubu.

Adeyeye made this known in a broadcast monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said Tinubu's candidacy has overwhelming support from a majority of Afenifere members despite insinuations to the contrary in some quarters.

“I have respect for Adebanjo. He is my boss in Afenifere. As of today, the boss of Afenifere, for clarity, is Reuben Fasoranti.

“There is no faction in Afenifere. What Fasoranti has simply done is that since he is advanced in age he has appointed someone to act on his behalf ad interim and this person is Ayo Adebanjo.

"If a decision has to be made by Afenifere, it's not a one-man show.

"What I read in the papers was Adebanjo's personal decision and not Afenifere's opinion," he said.

He further stated that "everything Adebanjo said was not a statement released at the end of a meeting of the organization, it was his personal decision.

"It is not a fact that Afenifere is divided or that there is factionalization.

“Ninety-nine percent of the Afenifera are behind Tinubu,” he said.
