2023: Tinubu talks about the source of wealth, says Atiku, Obi incompetent

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, Bola Tinubu, says he “inherited” real estate that has contributed to his wealth.

During an interview with BBC Focus on Africa on Tuesday, Mr Tinubu, who has earned a reputation for avoiding interviews, said he had invested his resources and had good returns.

The interview took place just 24 hours after his speech at Chatham House in the UK.

The former Governor of Lagos State has compared himself to American billionaire Warren Buffet.

"Are they enemies of wealth, if not enemies of wealth? Investments pay off. I have an example of Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in America and the world He started out buying stocks and brokerage. I inherited great real estate, flipped the values.

“I do not deny my wealth. I was the most investigated, the most accused governor in the opposition for eight years until 2007. Since I left office, I am still here, I did not take any government appointment, any government contract,” he said.

When asked about allegations of Lagos State revenue 'cuts', Mr Tinubu said the state's records had been investigated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"Share what? Have they proven it? World Bank (and) IMF investigated the matter in Lagos. What's wrong with them? It's envy", he said.

I can't run away from Buhari

Speaking on the record of the current administration headed by President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Tinubu said that even though he has his identity, he cannot disown the president, whom he described as " a friend and a leader".

He also defended the current administration on security, adding that the West is not too "comfortable enough with Buhari's administration" when it comes to arms sales .

Mr. Tinubu said he was not sure Western countries would change, but would consider massive recruitment into a "volunteer army" to eliminate insurgents and bandits.

He noted that he would stand on his record as a former Governor of Lagos State, adding that Mr Buhari had done his best.

"It (insecurity) has gone down, I will defend it for that. Then 17 local governments and about four states, where we have jihadist flags in Nigeria, it's gone. It's gone since long. “They will talk briefly about lethal weapons, ammunition and technological equipment; they will contribute to accelerating the elimination of these people.
