2023: Umahi bans political party street campaigns in Ebonyi

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, months ahead of the 2023 general election, has banned street campaigning by political parties. He also threatened to shut down party secretaries and defaulters' offices.

Umahi also banned the posting of posters on critical infrastructure, including utility poles, concrete medians, roads, air bridges and other critical state infrastructure by all political parties in the state. the state.

The Governor, who made this known in a statement signed and delivered to Abakaliki journalists by the State Information and Guidance Commissioner, Mr. Uchenna Orji, threatened to suppress the political parties, including his All Progressives Congress, APC, which littered the infrastructure with posters.

"The Governor has banned all street campaigning and directed all local government chairpersons to process all applications from any political party, including the APC, who wish to use public facilities for their campaigns," he said.

Umahi, however, ordered all political parties, including the APC, to remove with immediate effect all posters that were already littering critical state infrastructure.

According to him: "The governor has decided to pardon all other political parties and ask them to remove all their posters on all critical infrastructure by December 31, 2022 and to immediately refrain from defacing the facilities of the State under penalty of similar sanctions such as APC, Ebonyi State Chapter.
