30 farmers die in boat accident in Niger
A boat accident in Niger has claimed the lives of over 30 farmers, while dozens of farmers remain missing in Gbajibo community, Mokwa Local Government Area, in the state.
It is known that the unfortunate event occurred when the farmers entered the boat to transport them to their farms located on the other side of the river.
A source from the National Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed that more than 100 people were on board at the time of the incident.
According to him, “the farmers came from the Gbajibo, Ekwa and Yankyade communities and were heading towards their farms located on the other side of the Niger River (old Gbajibo).
When contacted, NSEMA Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Husseini, noted that the agency, in collaboration with Mokwa local government officials and local divers from the community, was currently carrying out a rescue and recovery operation.
“So far, 30 bodies have been found while dozens have been rescued, several others are still missing. »
