A New Year's tradition

I select a specific word or phrase each new year that I carry with me throughout the year for inspiration - I recommend you try it!

Each year around this time, I find a word or phrase to inspire my new year, a word that I will carry with me as a reminder as the year progresses.

This is nothing new. I first heard about it from a friend I reconnected with after college. He told me that he tattoos the new word every year on himself, to which my response was:

"Is this year's word of the year Crazy?"

I wouldn't go that far (besides, wouldn't it end up running out of space?) but the idea of a word of the year has been with me for five years, and it's a nice little mechanism to keep me under control.

My word last year was "celebrate" because my toxic trait is to accomplish something and immediately start the next thing before I even have a chance to enjoy the moment.

Having the word written in my head (and tattooed on a post-it by my desk) has become a gentle reminder to help me slow down and become more grateful for the things that have happened this year.

I will share my word of 2023 with a story. Maybe this will inspire you to choose a word to help you unlock next year.
