'Ayinla', 'Almajiri', 'Breaded Life', others top the list of Best Of Nollywood (BON) 2022 awards

Nigeria's oldest film industry awards, the Best of Nollywood (BON) awards have officially unveiled the list of nominees for the 2022 edition of the awards, which is set to be held in Owerri, State from Imo on December 3 with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma as host.

The nominees unveiling event, which took place in Opebi, Lagos on Monday, October 31, featured the likes of Hon. (Ms) Mojisola Meranda, Chief Whip of the Lagos State Assembly; former Lagos Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Steve Ayorinde; and multi-award winning actor, comedian and media personality, Gbenga Adeyinka.

At the top of the list of nominees, which was unveiled by the Honorable Meranda, was 'Ayinla' by Jadesola Osiberu. The film led with 10 nominations in 30 different categories available, including "Best Actor in a Leading Role", Lateef Adedimeji – Ayinla; "Best Supporting Actress", Omowunmi Dada - Ayinla; "Best Utilization of Nigerian Food" - Ayinla; 'Best Costume', Adeyemi Adedamola – Ayinla; “Director of the Year”, Tunde Kelani – Ayinla; and "Film of the Year" - Ayinla.

While congratulating the nominees, Hon. Meranda shared her excitement at being called up for the unveiling of the prestigious Motion Picture Industry Traveling Award.

Others with multiple nominations include films like "Breaded Life", Almajiri, Amina, Ile Owo and more.

Interestingly, in the 'Best Kiss' category, famous Nollywood band Abayomi Alvin got two nominations in 'Ben from Downstairs' and Ejiro's Lust.

In addition and in addition to previous editions, this year's edition introduced the category "Best Use of Nigerian Food", and films like "Ayinla, Alaise", "Ile Owo" and "Leg Over" have been nominated.< /p>

Most notable is the fact that more recent and younger stars feature in this year's list of nominees than ever before, a sign of an ever-growing industry that creates opportunities for new talent.

Speaking at the event, BON 2022 Jury Leader Francis Onwochei, who was represented by fellow Jury Member Ms. Kemi Olaoye, said the nominees were selected from a total number of 80 movies. He added that filmmakers have always put Nigeria front and center in the creative committee across the continent judging by the quality of submissions received.

“The awards are statements of recognition and achievement in every professional endeavour. It encourages and inspires better productivity and a more focused desire for creative excellence. as of August 31, both in English and major Indigenous languages, and these are our nominees,” he noted.

While answering questions from members of the media, Seun Oloketuyi, founder of the Best of Nollywood Awards, said that one of the reasons why this year is particularly special is that State Governor Hope Uzodinma d'Imo is extremely thrilled to be the host. "From the moment he agreed to host the awards until now, huge progress has been made. He said he wanted us to do something different and it was well done. The venue that we also chose for the ceremony is also under renovation and is 80% complete These are the exciting things that Governor Uzodinma is putting in place to receive Nollywood stars.”

On the security challenges in the country, Oloketuyi said Owerri is a hub of activity and the security situation is particularly stable. He further shared personal experiences of his visits to Owerri and assured that security was not a concern. "Also, we've been doing this for 14 years, and I think we're better at it," he said.
